Closer Day 2 | Psalm 33:1-9

Crosspointcity   -

Read: Psalm 33:1-9

1Shout for joy in the Lord, O you righteous!
    Praise befits the upright.
2 Give thanks to the Lord with the lyre;
    make melody to him with the harp of ten strings!
3 Sing to him a new song;
    play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

4 For the word of the Lord is upright,
    and all his work is done in faithfulness.
5 He loves righteousness and justice;
    the earth is full of the steadfast love of the Lord.

6 By the word of the Lord the heavens were made,
    and by the breath of his mouth all their host.
7 He gathers the waters of the sea as a heap;
    he puts the deeps in storehouses.

8 Let all the earth fear the Lord;
    let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him!
9 For he spoke, and it came to be;
    he commanded, and it stood firm.

Reflect:

Do you ever get so excited about something that you act out of the ordinary?  Of course, you do!  We shout, scream, laugh, cry, and jump up and down when something overwhelms us with happiness and awe that we can’t contain it.  It could be news about a job opportunity, your favorite team winning a big game, or finding out there is a baby on the way.  There are so many things that happen in life that are deserving of celebration.  However, in all of creation, is there anything or anyone more deserving of this type of response than the One who created it all?

Here, in the first half of Psalm 33, we are reminded of just a few of the characteristics of God that point us to why He should be the one who is celebrated over all.  Things like…

-the gift of the His word (Scripture) and its inherent truth

-His faithfulness and love for justice

-His steady and unwavering love

-the power of His words to create and control creation

There is no one like God.  He has no equal.  There is nothing and no one greater.  As a result, we stand in awe of Him.  We give Him everything, including our very lives (Romans 12:1).  This is our response to the revelation of who God truly is.  We call this response worship.  So let us worship the Lord with all of who we are and with all that we have!

Prayer:

I pray to see and experience more of You today.  God, may my life be lived in response to who You are as an act of worship.  Help me to take every opportunity to praise You regardless of my circumstances and to be constantly reminded of Your greatness.
